Abrams
Mary Abrams, MA, RSME, teaches in NYC and internationally. Her 25 years of professional service includes working with psychotherapists, social workers, political activist/leaders, artists, actors, health care providers, business leaders, and educators, among others. Her love for working with people is informed by her MA degree in Consciousness Studies focusing on embodied movement, the biology of emotion (affective neuroscience), and Epistemics (a model for how humans create meaning); and over 20 years of exploring and teaching somatic movement practice inspired by dance, creativity, and healing. Her primary influences include: Emilie Conrad (Continuum), Susan Harper (Continuum), Gary David (Epistemics & Affect theory), Caryn McHose & Kevin Frank (Evolutionary Movement & Structural Integration), Susan Bauer & Toni Sostek (Dance, St. Olaf College), Silvan Tomkins (Affect theory), the open fields & skies of Iowa, the wild currents of the East River (NYC), the subtle movements of White Oak Pond (NH), and all her students/clients for the last 26 years.
Mary owns and directs Moving Body Resources (NYC), a space for teachers and practitioners supporting body awareness, wellness, and authenticity in life. She taught from 2007-2020 on the graduate course, Masters in Dance & Somatic Well-being, from the University of Central Lancashire in the UK and USA; and currently teaches on the Continuum Training at the Somatische Akademie Berlin (Germany). Mary is honored to have also served on the boards of directors of the: Minnesota Dance Alliance, Danspace Project at St. Mark’s Church, ISMETA, and the Tomkins Institute.
